Jovellanos Theatre

The Jovellanos Theatre is the benchmark coliseum in Gijón, under municipal management since 1995. The building it occupies was inaugurated as the Dindurra Theatre in 1899. In 1942, after being restored from the damage suffered during the Civil War, it definitively took its current name. It was considered one of the main theatres in Spain in terms of programmed performances and infrastructure, with a capacity of 1,123 seats. It hosts a multitude of dance, theatre, film and music performances a year and is the main venue for the Xixón International Film Festival (FICX).
