Gijón/Xixón works with the Responsible Tourism Institute, in this program with international scope: Biosphere Sustainable. In it, local tourism companies and services work with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), applying simple practices in your company, which will allow you to reduce consumption, improve company habits and routines, belong to a type of innovative tourist offer that is increasingly in demand by tourists, and differentiate yourself.
For Gijón/Xixón companies and entities that want to participate in this program, there will be two levels of recognition, depending on their commitment and compliance with the activities proposed by the model:
- Compromised entity: when there is improvement planning based on the commitment to sustainability and it is demonstrated that the company begins the work of complying with the SDG.
- Certified entity: when a high degree of compliance with the SDG is achieved.

The Biosphere methodology has been created by the Responsible Tourism Institute and its objective is to transfer to the tourism sector the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, approved at the only world summits sponsored by UNESCO and the UNWTO, which were held during 2017, the International Year of Sustainable Tourism. The new methodology is established as a guide for the sector in the development of tourism products and services.
