Gijonomía is a way of being, living and feeling Gijón/Xixón. It's a passion... an obsession. It is the compendium of what we and our city are.
Cheerful, generous, noble, friendly… “big ones”, with a curious way of understanding life and also of expressing it. That’s how we are.
If you are a visitor, you will immediately discover that there are very Gijón things. Sometimes they will seem a bit shocking to you, but in context everything makes sense. It will not be strange that, walking through Gijón/Xixón, you hear expressions or words that are unknown to you: chiscar, lend, estrapayar, mancar, emburriar, fame, folixa… Expressions from Asturian are mixed in the speech of the people of Gijón without us being aware that we are doing so. But there are also expressions that are typical of the city: if someone tells you to “see the whale” they are not precisely suggesting that you go to the Aquarium…

The treaty
Gijón/Xixón and its inhabitants deserve an encyclopedia of our own.
Our passion for everything: food, cider, the sea, nature, friendship, fun… for life! It is something worth studying.
This is why we are preparing a complete Treaty of Gijonomía, an anthropological and anthological study of Gijón/Xixón, its corners, its customs and, above all, its interesting specimens.
The Principles
Gijonomy is structured through its Fundamental Principles, a set of laws that govern the life of Gijón/Xixón and its people.
The result of years of observation and study, the Fundamental Principles are key to understanding the character and habits of these curious characters. Minds and schools have collaborated in its preparation and have left an indelible mark on the history of science and philosophy. Well, more than collaborating, we have stolen some ideas from them, so their contribution, without a doubt, is more than present.
Over time, step by step, we will complete the Treaty of Gijonomía, revealing the secrets of each of the Principles, meeting new specimens, discovering places and portraying behaviors.
