Chapel of Providence

The chapel, which occupies the place of the disappeared hermitage of San Lorenzo de Mar, was built according to the plans of the municipal architect Enrique Álvarez Sala, and inaugurated on May 26, 1946. After suffering a collapse, it was restored in its entirety between 1986 and 1987. Inside it preserves a set of wax votive offerings offered by the faithful of the Virgin of Providence. It is famous for the pilgrimage that summons crowds and for the devotion of many Gijón residents who look to the Black Virgin to implore her favors.
