Smart Tourism Destinations Network
The Smart Tourism Destinations Network (DTI) is an initiative of the Spanish State Secretariat for Tourism to foster the exchange of experiences and knowledge that contributes to the smart development of tourism destinations.
It works as a tool with the following objectives:
- To promote public-public and public-private collaboration in the development of products, services and actions for smart tourism destinations.
- To help guarantee Spain’s leadership in tourism intelligence through the actions carried out by the network.
- To guarantee the quality and evolution of the DTI project.
Within the framework of this network, the Plataforma Inteligente de Destinos (PID) has been created, an initiative developed and managed by SEGITTUR and funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Component 14). Its aim is to connect destinations, companies, tourists and residents, helping them address the major challenges facing tourism today: sustainability, digitalisation, personalisation, operational efficiency and strengthening the local fabric.
The PID is a technological infrastructure that provides digital services and technological tools to digitalise services and integrate, relate and combine public and private data that generate greater competitive intelligence and activate continuous innovation in destinations’ tourism ecosystems.
It is therefore a tool that promotes sustainable development and digital activation through a tourism ecosystem, a space for collaboration and tourism intelligence where the destinations in the network exchange data and knowledge, generating innovative tourism services adapted to the needs of territories in order to improve the sustainable management of destinations and boost their competitiveness.

Ruta Vía de la Plata Municipalities Network
The Cooperation Network of Cities on the Ruta de la Plata is a voluntary association made up of cities located on the so-called Ruta Vía de la Plata and in its area of influence, working together to defend and promote their tourism, historical, cultural and economic resources.
The main objective of this association is to publicise the tourism resources of its member towns and cities, while also enhancing the many attractions represented by the Ruta Vía de la Plata through its variety and breadth.
The Cooperation Network of Cities on the Ruta de la Plata began its journey in April 1997. Gijón/Xixón was one of the cities that launched the project, together with León, Zamora, Salamanca, Cáceres and Seville, and stands out for its location as the start and end of the route. Gijón/Xixón also hosts the network’s permanent secretariat.

Spain by Train
Spain by Train is a tourism association and strategic network made up of cities in Spain connected by the High-Speed Rail Network.
This initiative, which was born two decades ago as the AVE Cities Network and has evolved into a benchmark for modern tourism, aims to promote participating destinations through fast, comfortable, central and sustainable transport.
Spain By Train is not only a network of rail connections; it is a project that seeks to reinvent the way tourists explore Spain. High speed not only reduces travel times, but also allows visitors to discover destinations more efficiently and in a more environmentally friendly way.
In addition, the network encourages collaboration between cities, creating tourism itineraries that combine culture, gastronomy, nature and heritage in a unique way.
