The original chapel was built in 1674 on the initiative of Antonia Valdés Llanos, under the invocation of Our Lady of the Assumption. Today it is the headquarters of the Fishermen’s Guild of Gijón, which preserves the tradition of the old guild of seafarers. The chapel, of small dimensions, has a wooden choir and a square apse covered with a handkerchief vault. Its exterior decoration is simple and is limited to the prominent padding of the entrance doorway. On the side façade there is a slit in the shape of a scallop.
