In 1946 work began on what would be the new church of San José with a budget of three and a half million pesetas, and which would be inaugurated on November 7, 1954. A total of 81 workers came to work on its scaffolding, including masons, carpenters and laborers.
It is the work of Enrique Rodríguez Bustelo, and was built in neo-baroque style. Despite its historicist appearance, modern materials were used in its construction: reinforced concrete and ceramics covered with lead in the central vault, artificial stone in the coverings.
