Church of San Lorenzo

Conceived in a historicist key, the church of San Lorenzo was built between 1896 and 1901. Its author, Luis Bellido y González (1869-1955), is one of the most important Asturian figures in architecture from the 19th to the 20th century. The church of San Lorenzo is inspired by the Spanish late medieval Gothic and includes abundant stained glass windows, ogives and pinnacles, with a Latin cross plan, masked towards the outside, and a flat head. The façade with a traditional gable portico and central rose window is flanked by two towers with triforated arches and topped by pinnacles. It was partially destroyed in 1936. Inside you can see the sculpture of the Virgin with the resurrected Christ, the work of the Asturian artist Joaquín Rubio Camín.
