San Lorenzo Beach Stairway 16 is located in the area popularly known as “El Tostaderu”, at the mouth of the Piles River.
At any time of the year, Pelayo, Álvaro, Leri, Carmen, Macio and other people from Gijón with a vocation for lizards come quickly, sunscreen in hand, as soon as the sun appears through the clouds.
Because, as they say, the wall of El Tostaderu collects and saves every ray of sunlight that reaches Gijón/Xixón. A microclimate, wow. And that’s why professionals go to work there.
The Piles
At Gijón/Xixón we are very proud of El Piles, our river. We know it’s not a big deal, but we love it. The El Piles bridge is like those in Paris, but smaller and more humble. Crossing it takes us from the Wall to the other side of the river and the first thing we find is… the Tostaderu.

If you continue along the walk from El Tostaderu, you will reach El Rinconín. There are a couple of coves (dogs are allowed in one of them all year round) and a large green area with palm trees and children’s games. If you don’t like sand too much, in El Rinconín park you can sunbathe, rest or walk as you like.

It doesn’t rain much here. Well yes, sometimes. It goes by seasons. Or for days. Or for hours. But when the sun rises, its light illuminates our beautiful city and everyone comes out to welcome it. Of course, when it appears between the clouds, it “stings” beautifully.
The marina
Boys and girls (and the occasional hard-working parent), when the tide is low, spend hours skillfully walking among the rocks in search of shrimps, periwinkles, crabs and other marine fauna, whether with a desire for hunting or pure research. The outfit: cap, sunscreen, crab sandals, bucket and truel.
A stroll to La Lloca
We are very aware of this privilege. We have a lot of city and a lot of natural environment, wonderful to walk, but a classic is make the Wall. From the church of San Pedro to La Lloca it is a 3-kilometer walk along the sea. Any time is perfect, but we recommend sunset.
