Not many years ago, a group of friends from Gijón/Xixón got together to share their greatest hobbies: music, scooters and les fartures. Their favorite dish is cachopo, although they clarify: “we don’t dislike good rice with bugre“The Scooter Club Cachopers was born.
Get on your vespa, let’s travel together the winding roads of the Gijón coast and share a succulent Asturian delicacy by the sea. Then we’ll shake things up a bit with good live music from the local scene.
The famous cachopo
It has become a hallmark of Asturian gastronomy. Although there are variations, it basically consists of serrano ham and local cheese between two fillets of Asturian beef, all breaded and in proportions… something more than large, we could say.
The picnic areas
Located on the outskirts of the city, with outdoor tables and surrounded by nature, they are an ideal meeting point for families and groups of friends. A plan: you take a bike ride with the gang through the surrounding mountains and paths and at noon you make a stop at your favorite picnic spot to refuel on cider, croquettes, squid and Cabrales cheese. How does it sound?
The cider houses
Here we also call them winches. They are, as their name suggests, establishments where cider is drunk (and poured). But also where you can find the freshest raw materials and the most authentic local people.
Local gastronomy

A biker city
This city has always been characterized by its biker culture and the large number of motorcycles that travel through it. Like the Cachopers, there are many clubs that are dedicated to filming and activities. And, without having to leave the council, there are countless surprising roads and tracks that run between the sea and the mountains. And, a little further, you have at your disposal nothing less than… all of Asturias!
The Gijón music scene
We Gijón people love music and, fortunately, our love is reciprocated. The city is famous for its live music in bars and for the countless festivals, of all styles, that it hosts throughout the year: Gijón Sound Festival, L.E.V. Festival, Early Music Festival, Gijón Life, Tsunami Xixón, Euroyeye, Jazz Xixón and Gospel Festival, among others.
